Understanding Brain Activity

EEG (Electroencephalography) records the electrical activity of the brain using electrodes placed on the scalp. This non-invasive, painless procedure is essential for diagnosing epilepsy, seizures, sleep disorders, and other neurological conditions.

Our advanced digital EEG system provides high-resolution brain wave analysis with 32-channel recording capability. The test helps neurologists understand brain function and detect abnormalities that may not be visible on other imaging tests.

We offer various types of EEG testing including routine EEG, sleep EEG, video EEG monitoring, and ambulatory 24-hour EEG. Our experienced neurophysiologists ensure accurate electrode placement and high-quality recordings for precise diagnosis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about EEG testing.

EEG (Electroencephalography) records electrical activity in your brain using small electrodes placed on your scalp. It's primarily used to diagnose epilepsy, seizures, sleep disorders, brain injuries, and other neurological conditions.

No, EEG is completely painless and safe. The electrodes only record brain activity - they don't send any electricity into your brain. There's no radiation exposure, and the test is safe for all ages including children and pregnant women.

A routine EEG typically takes 45-60 minutes. However, sleep EEG may take 2-3 hours, and video EEG monitoring for epilepsy can last 24-72 hours or longer depending on your doctor's requirements.

Wash your hair the night before and avoid using hair products. Eat normally unless instructed otherwise. Continue taking your medications unless your doctor advises you to stop. For sleep EEG, you may be asked to stay awake the night before.

EEG is excellent for detecting electrical abnormalities like seizures and epilepsy. However, it cannot detect structural problems like tumors or strokes - for those, you would need imaging tests like MRI or CT scans.

EEG results are typically available within 24-48 hours. A neurophysiologist will analyze the recording and send the report to your referring doctor, who will discuss the results and treatment plan with you.
