Expert Management of Bone Fractures

Fractures can range from simple breaks to complex injuries involving multiple bones and soft tissues. At Prayag Hospital, our Trauma & Fracture Fixation unit is designed to provide rapid, expert care for all types of skeletal injuries.

We specialize in "biological fixation" techniques that prioritize the preservation of blood supply to the bone, ensuring faster and stronger healing. Our team is adept at handling complicated cases like neglected fractures, infected non-unions, and deformities.

Supported by 24/7 advanced imaging (CT, Digital X-Ray) and a fully equipped modular Operation Theatre, receiving correct treatment within the "Golden Hour" greatly improves outcomes, especially in poly-trauma cases.

Fixation Techniques

Modern approaches for stable bones.

Interlocking Nailing

Minimally invasive technique for long bone fractures (Femur, Tibia) allowing early weight bearing.

Locking Plate Fixation

Use of advanced titanium locking plates for osteoporotic bones and fractures near joints to ensure rigid fixation.

External Fixator (Ilizarov)

Specialized ring fixators for treating open fractures, bone infections, and limb lengthening procedures.

MIPO Technique

Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis – fixing fractures through small keyholes without opening the fracture site.

Pediatric Nailing

Use of Titanium Elastic Nails (TENS) for children's fractures which are scar-less and removal is easy.

Deformity Correction

Frequently Asked Questions

Healing your bones.

Generally, bones take 6 to 8 weeks to heal. However, weight-bearing bones like the leg may take longer (3-6 months) for full strength. Factors like age, nutrition, and smoking affect healing time.

Not necessarily. Modern titanium implants are designed to stay in the body permanently and typically do not cause issues. Removal is only recommended if they cause pain, irritation, or infection after the bone has fully healed.

MIPO stands for Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis. It involves inserting a plate through small incisions and sliding it over the bone, rather than making a large cut. This preserves the blood supply and speeds up healing.

It depends on the type of fracture and the cast. If you have a "walking cast" or boot, you may be allowed to put weight on it. Always follow your doctor's specific instructions to prevent displacing the fracture.
