Simple fatty liver is common and usually not harmful, but if it progresses to NASH (inflammation), it can lead to cirrhosis and liver failure. Early management is key.

Hepatitis C is now curable with oral antiviral medications taken for 3-6 months. The success rate is over 95%.

Heavy alcohol use damages the liver. In early stages (fatty liver), stopping alcohol can reverse the damage. However, once cirrhosis sets in, the scarring is permanent, though stopping alcohol can prevent further worsening.

Symptoms include yellowing of eyes (jaundice), swelling of abdomen (ascites), confusion (encephalopathy), and bleeding tendencies. This is a medical emergency.
